Greyhound 85W140 Gear oil range offers 85W140 high-performance, EP gear oils manufactured from high-quality mineral base oils and multifunctional “extreme pressure” additives. Our  85W140 is high-performance commercial gear oil formulated from select base oils and an advanced additive system. The oil is engineered for performance in heavy-duty commercial transmissions, axles and final drives where extreme pressures and shock loading are expected. Furthermore, Greyhound 85W140 gear oil often is used in GL-4 and GL-5 specifications depending on application requirements such as heavy-duty differentials, axles, manual gearboxes and final drives. It is suitable for light passenger cars, vans, light and heavy-duty trucks, buses and construction equipment as per manufacturers’ requirements.

API GL-4 vs GL-5Gear oils all include different levels of sulfur or phosphorous additive. The EP additive covers the gears and gets consumed by friction against the gears, therefore GL-4 is typically used for vehicles with a high level of yellow metal because the additive corrodes such metals and roughly contains half of the EP additives in comparison to GL-5. The API sets the guidelines for automotive gear lubricants according to their intended use. The car operated at moderate speeds and loads will often use GL-4 oils in manual transmission and trans-axle applications. The API category GL-5 for gear oils designates the lubricant as appropriate for hypoid gears in automotive axles.
